Thought I’d post some pictures of this beast. It will soon be stretched to roughly 36 feet. Right now a Ford F350 Diesel is being chopped up to fit under my 1983 Chevy ice cream truck. I’ll post more pictures as I have them.

I’ve been trying to realize my work in different ways. Here are some vinyl experiments. I’m not sure if it’s quite right. But I like it better than the prints I’ve shown before. Still needs a bit of work.

Chris Ho Bridge

This project took awhile to realize. It started in Christopher Ho’s collaboration seminar class but wasn’t realized within that class. Last semester my final group in Art Design Collaboration realized the project to its full glory. We had a groundbreaking with ceremonial shovels, construction hats, a cake, a speech from Susan Connery (PR from Johnson and Whales) and construction signs. The proposed bridge is one to cross the street, connecting neighboring universities.

I didn’t want to update this thing until I had the triptych completed. This ended up being what I showed for Final Crits. My crit went well, but no one seems to see the same problems that I see with the work. I think prints are too easy, and I need something more problematic.

Project #2 was supposed to be about failure, around the theme of state (however you wanted to define state). My group decided to do work around a state fair. We had stands for each group to stand on, but our stand was the highest, the biggest, and we had a balloon drop situated only above our stand. We wanted to win. The judges were Brooks and Julia, the professors and Michelle Kuo (editor of Artforum). There was a moment of slight panic for the judges when they realized they were put in the position of having to judge every team. They handled it nicely, and broke up the colors, mixing them up and arbitrarily giving out the ribbons based on color rather than by place.

I don’t have images from the event yet, but I have a shot once everyone left.

I got a green ribbon, which is 5th place, in case you were wondering.

I’m starting to think I should approve some of my comments that are held in the spam folder. There are truly some gems in there.

So that Sheriff’s Department bus was one part of a collaboration. Me and my collaboration partner were both supposed to make our own work about Providence and then work together to make a collaborative piece about Providence. She did a crayon rubbing of a manhole cover. We didn’t completely agree with what the collaboration should be, and I eventually took it over and made it more of my project. But I’m quite pleased with the results.
